AeroMem® - membrane bioreactors
The technology of membrane separation of the activated sludge, known as the ‘membrane bioreactor’ (MBR), combines the biological wastewater treatment with the activated sludge separation on the ultra filtration membranes in order to produce the high-quality effluent, with no suspended matter.

The membranes act as secondary settling tanks used in conventional activated sludge once-through wastewater treatment plants, with the centrifugal separation of the activated sludge. The membrane is a physical barrier preventing the suspended matter and microorganisms from contaminating the effluent, which is thus free of bacteria and some viruses. This also allows for significantly higher concentrations of the activated sludge in the biological treatment.PP-EKO uses various membrane bioreactors technologies, all confirmed by references:
- AeroMem®-SUB – utilizing the submerged membranes. The technology works with the average sludge concentration of 10 g/l (MLSS).
- AeroMem®-X – utilizing the pressurized membranes. Allows for the activated sludge concentrations up to 20 g/l (MLSS).
Depending on the configuration the AeroMem® allows for three to four-fold reduction of the activated sludge tank size. The operation parameters of the system are different as well.

Advantages:
- High-quality effluent;
- Small footprint;
- The possibilty to use the existing facilities;
- No ‘activated sludge escape’ problem;
- Wide range of usage.
